Steven Brian EMSDEN Steven Emsden was tragically killed following a collision with a lorry whilst travelling to work on his motorcycle on the morning of 12th June 2009. Steve aged 49 and affectionately known as ‘Emmo’ to family and friends was born and spent his life in Colchester. After attending Old Heath Primary and Wilson Marriage Schools he then went on to complete an apprenticeship at the Lathe Company. He continued to further his career in engineering and finally became a Production Controller at Brantham Engineering where he worked until his death. A keen sportsman from an early age, Steve played football for all his school teams through to county level as well as local teams, most notably Donyland Swifts. He continued onto semi- professional football with Brightlingsea and Clacton, ending his playing career with St John’s Abbey with whom he won many trophies including the highest honour at this level, the Essex Junior Trophy. He was also an armchair supporter of Colchester United, Liverpool and England. After finishing playing football Steve turned his talents to golf and was a member of Stoke by Nayland Golf Club for a number of years playing off a single figure handicap. His passion for motorcycles was one that took him around Britain and Europe following both the British and World Superbike championships. Aside from his more sporting endeavours Steve played darts and pool for the Abbey Arms, where he was to meet the girl who was to become his wife. He was also a social member of both the Colchester Cricket and Hockey clubs. He made countless friends through all his interests and will be fondly remembered by all for his infectious enthusiasm and sense of fun. Most recently Steve became an avid supporter of Harlequins and England Rugby Union and regularly attended matches with his family. Steve was a devoted and loving husband to Jayne, whom he married in 1989 and a caring, supportive and fun loving dad to their two sons, Nathan and Jake. He also leaves his parents, Brian and Marjory and his younger brothers, Robert and Trevor. He will be terribly missed by all and can certainly never be replaced.
